The situation at MHA Hafan y Waun Care Home, Waunfawr, Aberystwyth remains challenging and partner organisations continue to deal with a significant incident at the Home.

A multi-agency Incident Management Team has been established to respond to this incident and Ceredigion County Council and Hywel Dda University Health Board continue to provide support to the Home.

Significant resources have been provided by the Council to support the residents and staff including providing 12 profiling beds, scrubs, pedal bins for each bedroom, trolleys for the PPE, additional waste provision and staff accommodation. Hywel Dda University Health Board has provided the Home with access to district nurses and to virtual counselling for staff in addition to Primary and Community Services.

MHA is identifying additional staff to support the existing team with the intention of providing more staff than is normally on duty at any time.

The Council has contacted the residents’ family and MHA has a dedicated 24 hour telephone number for them to speak with one of their chaplains. Residents continue to be supported to keep in touch with family and friends via telephone and video conferencing.

In addition, arrangements have been made for family, friends and well-wishers to take any gifts and donations to Waunfawr Community Centre, Brynceinion, Waunfawr, Aberystwyth SY23 3PN on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 10am and 12pm.
