Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training’s (HCT) Plumbing department has been celebrating the success of two apprentices, Shannon Haf Burril and Robert Davies, in recent UK-wide trade competitions.

Shannon Haf Burril (Haf), a Level 2 Plumbing apprentice competed against aspiring tradespersons from across the UK to represent HCT in the ‘Screwfix Trade Apprentice 2018’ competition. Haf had to complete a series of tasks, including creating a video showcasing her skills in plumbing. Judges looked for professionalism, creativity, innovation, enthusiasm, and knowledge of the plumbing industry. Having created an impression on the judges, Having created an impression on the judges, Haf was successful in reaching the final round of the competition, at the Google headquarters in London.

Annabel Cooper, plumbing tutor at HCT, said, “Congratulations to Haf, for doing so well in competing and putting in the huge effort to make it to the final ten in the whole of the UK. I am so proud of Haf, and hope that she will continue to excel in her field in the future!”

Another HCT Level 3 Plumbing apprentice, Robert Davies, was also successful in proceeding to the finals of a prestigious trade competition; World Skills UK. Robert finished first place in the regional West of Wales heat of the competition and second place in Wales overall, after undertaking a series of practical tests in order to demonstrate his abilities and skills in Plumbing. Robert will go on to represent HCT in the Welsh National final in July 2018, with the chance, if successful, to compete in the UK finals which will take place at the WSUK Skills Show in November 2018 at the Birmingham NEC.

Daniel Beale, Plumbing tutor at HCT, said, “Robert is a highly skilled technician and has an excellent chance of getting through to the UK finals. We’re all very proud of him here at HCT and fully support him.”

Councillor Catrin Miles, Cabinet Member for Learning Services said, “It’s fantastic to hear of the success of these two inspiring apprentices and on behalf of Ceredigion County Council, would like to wish them all the very best for their future careers. HCT offers a range of vocational courses for people of all ages, including Hairdressing, Childcare, Business Administration, Information Technology, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrics, Blacksmithing, Agriculture, Motor Mechanics, and Welding.”
