Safe Zones have been in place in four Ceredigion towns for three weeks.

Ceredigion County Council has created safe zones in Aberaeron, Aberystwyth, Cardigan and New Quay for an open, safe space. The purpose of the Safe Zone is to create a space where people can walk around safely and confidently and are able to enjoy what our towns have to offer.

The four towns have been busy with the population of Ceredigion doubling with visitors coinciding with the start of the school holidays. The safe zones have provided space to ensure that social distancing can be maintained in these towns. Businesses have taken the opportunity to create outdoor space for people to enjoy.

Visitors can take advantage of the free parking at designated car parks and the time to enjoy and support local businesses. A list of the Council’s Pay and Display car parks can be seen here: www.ceredigion.gov.uk/parking and additional signage is being displayed to direct visitors to the free car parks.

We thank all those who have been in touch with their views and comments on the safe zones. Following feedback, some changes have been made where appropriate.

Adaptations include:

• Barriers removed outside Victoria Terrace, Aberystwyth and along a part of the prom. There is now parking available in this area.
• Removal of through traffic restrictions in the vicinity of Castle Street and St. James’ Place, Aberystwyth
• Provision of additional disabled parking spaces in the locations identified on the maps
• Construction works to widen footways at Aberaeron

The first 21 days of these four safe zones have been extended a further 21 days from midnight, 02 August 2020. Consideration is being given to extending these safe zones further.

Safe zones in other towns within the county are being looked into on a smaller scale.

We thank the residents of Ceredigion for adhering to regulations and for keeping the number of cases of the coronavirus comparatively low.

Keep Ceredigion Safe. Further information regarding the Safe Zones are available on the Council’s website.
