A consultation on the proposal to build a new area school in the Aeron Valley will be held after being approved in a Cabinet meeting on 22 January 2019.

The proposal for a new area school in the Aeron Valley would see Ysgol Gynradd Ciliau Parc, Ysgol Gynradd Dihewyd, Ysgol Gynradd Felinfach, and Ysgol Gynradd Cilcennin join into one school. This proposal will not include Ysgol Gynradd Cilcennin if a seperate decision is taken to close the school at the end of August 2019.

The proposal would be a part of the 21st Century programme which is included in the council’s Corporate Strategy 2017-2022. The council would need to match funds with the Welsh Government to deliver a new area school.

Councillor Catrin Miles, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Learning Services, “Schools form an important part of the fabric of our communities. Any change to this needs means we need to listen to the communities that would be affected. I urge anyone who wants to have their say to do so. Any new school will serve the community, so it’s only right that we hear from those communities.”

The consultation will begin on 4 February 2019.
