Support was provided to an Aberystwyth man who was made redundant to gain new skills and venture back into the world of work.
Arwyn Jones, 56, from Aberystwyth had been in the same job for years and was made redundant. During the difficult period of the pandemic, he was unemployed and living off his savings.
With the support of Workways+ and other support organisation, he gained access to training to improve his IT skills and computer work and was put in contact with a Mentor who helped him fill in application forms, contact employers and gain interview tips.
He then secured a full time job working for Guardwatch in Aberaeron where he is part of a team of people managing the Covid testing drive through facility.
Arwyn Jones said: “I am happy that I have secured work and I enjoy meeting new people. I can now pay my bills and support myself without having to rely on my savings. I would like to thank Workways+ for all their help along the way.”
Councillor Catrin Miles, Ceredigion County Council Cabinet Member for Schools, Lifelong Learning and Skills, Support and Intervention, said: “It’s great to hear about Arwyn’s positive experience in securing new work after gaining new skills with the help of this programme. Workways+ is partly funded by the European Social Fund through Welsh Government, and is delivered by Ceredigion County Council.
Mentors provide 1:1 support for participants with writing CV’s, undertaking mock interviews, up-skilling and funding a wide variety of training including help with starting up their own business.
