There are currently just over 40 individuals in Ceredigion looking for support that will give them the choice to live life more independently.

Are you a friendly, kind, and patient person who’d like to make a positive difference to someone’s life in your community? If so, the role of a personal assistant may be the perfect role for you.

There are many different reasons why someone may need a personal assistant and there are many different aspects of their life that they may need support with – some are families seeking support with respite care, some wish to have a caring assistant to help with after school activities and there are some who are looking for support in developing social and practical skills such as cooking or catching a bus.

The right person – who could be you – can provide support to them to live independently in their own home, in the community, at leisure, or perhaps at work, helping with various aspects of their daily life.

As a Personal Assistant (PA) you would be employed directly by an individual who’s managing and paying for their own care through a social care direct payment. Ceredigion County Council Direct Payments Support Service provides individuals who are eligible for the service with information, support as well as practical help with recruiting and employing staff, paying wages, and helping with tax and National Insurance payments.

You may be someone who only has a few hours spare a week but would like to spend that time helping others. Some PA’s are only needed for a couple of hours a week, whereas some others are needed up to 18 hours a week.

Catherine Hughes as Cabinet member for Porth Ceredigion, Early Intervention, Wellbeing Hubs, and Culture: “We sometimes take a lot of things in life for granted like walking, eating, popping out in the car to go shopping, and being with our friends. For some, life can be more challenging and their choice to be independent is reduced. To work as a personal assistant and know that you’re making a positive impact in someone else’s life is very rewarding. There are currently individuals living all across the county from Aberystwyth down to Cardigan and everywhere in between seeking someone like you.”

PA’s now have access to e-learning courses provided by the Council on a variety of important topics such as Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity, Health and Safety, Information Security, and many more.
