A consultation has opened asking for your views on where to relocate two stone memorials from Tregaron’s Old Secondary School.
There are two stone tablets affixed to a wall within the Old Secondary School in Tregaron. They commemorate former pupils who lost their lives fighting in each World War.
These tablets constitute a war memorial and are recorded in the UK National Inventory of War Memorials.
The Old School is owned by ‘The Old County School, Tregaron’ trust and will shortly be sold by Ceredigion County Council as a trustee of the property, therefore new homes are needed for these tablets.
The consultation aims to gather local people’s views as to where it would be appropriate to relocate the tablets so that they can be viewed, and the fallen remembered, by the local community and wider public for generations to come.
Councillor Catherine Hughes, Ceredigion Cabinet Member and Councillor for Tregaron, said: “These two stones are a big part of Tregaron’s history as they commemorate former pupils of the school in this area who lost their lives in the wars. It is therefore important that we gather the views of local people about where best to place them so that they can continue to be remembered for generations to come. As it says on the memorial – 'Mewn angof ni chant fod / They will not be forgotten'. I urge you to complete the survey and share it with friends and family members.”
