Views are being sought on a new Corporate Enforcement Policy produced by Ceredigion County Council.

Ceredigion County Council is responsible for administering and enforcing a range of regulatory legislative requirements ranging from Animal Health and Licensing to Food Safety and Education Inclusion.

Whilst certain service areas have had their own Enforcement Policy for several years, this is the first attempt at designing a high level overarching policy framework that can be referred to by a range of officers within the Council.

Councillor Gareth Lloyd, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Public Protection Services said, “The decision to take, or not take, enforcement action is not taken lightly as it may have implications for all involved. It is therefore important that there is a policy in place to guide officers to ensure a consistent approach when using the range of enforcement tools available to them.”

As a Council that prides itself on transparency and consistency, constructive comments, particularly from those that might be impacted by this policy, in relation to any aspect of its content, is welcomed. Comments are also welcomed on whether people think the policy is right and if there should be any additions or removals to the Policy, and if so, what?

Councillor Lloyd continues, “Importantly, the Council believes that most businesses and individuals want to comply with the law. Help and support will be provided to enable them to meet their legal obligations without unnecessary expense, while firm action will be taken against those who have no or little regard for the law or act irresponsibly. Comments are welcomed which will be carefully considered prior to the final draft being adopted by Cabinet. This will ensure the Corporate Enforcement Policy is comprehensive for Officers to use.”

Comments are welcomed prior to the policy being reported to Cabinet on 10 July 2018. The Policy can be read on the consultation page. Comments can be sent by e-mail to tradingstandards@ceredigion.gov.uk or by post to David Lloyd Roberts, Consumer Services Manager, Policy and Performance, Care, Protection and Lifestyle, Neuadd Cyngor Ceredigion, Penmorfa, Aberaeron, SA46 0PA by Friday, 22 June 2018.
