As part of Carers week, individuals and organisations come together to organise activities and events throughout the UK, drawing attention to just how important caring is. This year, Ceredigion County Council’s Carers Unit and third sector partners invite you to a Carers Relax and recharge day on Tuesday, 11 June at Rhosygilwen Mansion, Cilgerran.

Carers Week runs from Monday, 10 June to Sunday 16 June and is an annual campaign to recognise the contribution Carers make to families and communities.

Come along and benefit from all or any of these available on the day:
• Free refreshments and lunch - locally sourced and freshly prepared
• Guided walks around the Victorian gardens, arboretum and estate
• Stunning views across to the Preseli mountains
• Hand massage
• ‘Come and Sing’ guided singing session
• Guided session on Carers Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health
• A range of organisations on hand to give information, advice and guidance
• Arts and craft activities
Heather West is the Carers Development Officer for Ceredigion County Council’s Carers unit. She said, “This event is free to all Carers - you are a Carer if you care for a family member or a friend. Come and put your feet up in beautiful surroundings, get some fresh air in the peace and tranquillity of the countryside, come talk to other Carers and let us treat you to a bit of ‘me time’ to celebrate all you do for your loved ones.

You can follow the event on the Council’s Facebook page to keep a reminder! If you would like to come but are not sure how you can make it happen, please call us and we will try to help. Booking is essential for this event.”

Carers often face a lack of recognition in all areas of their lives: this can be from employers, GPs and social workers, even friends and family. The main consequence of this lack of recognition is that Carers suffer more than they need to. Carers struggle with their finances, health, job, social life and general wellbeing.

By providing unpaid care for someone they know who is ill, frail, disabled, coping with a mental health condition or an addiction they save the economy an incredible £132 billion a year – close to the cost of a second NHS!
