Councillor Hag Harris was elected as the Chairman of the Council for 2018-2019 in the Annual Meeting held by Ceredigion County Council on Friday 18 May 2018.

Opening the meeting and retiring as Chairman, Councillor Lynford Thomas addressed the Council and reflected on his year as Chairman. He emphasised that in over a hundred engagements he had attended, he was impressed by the breadth of talent he saw in the young people of the county.

After being elected as Chairman, Councillor Harris, of the Lampeter ward made a Declaration of Acceptance of Office and was presented with the Chain of Office by his predecessor. He then addressed the Council stating that being elected Chairman is an honour and that he intends on giving every Councillor a fair chance to express their opinion in the Chamber. The Reverend Jenny Kimber was appointed as the Chairman’s Chaplain for 2018-2019.

Councillor Peter Davies MBE, of the Capel Dewi ward was elected as Vice-Chairman of the Council. He made a Declaration of Acceptance of Office and was presented with the Insignia of Office by the Chairman. He added that he hoped that Council members can work together for the benefit of the county.

Two Councillors stepped down as Chairmen of committees as is required after serving for two years. Councillor Lyndon Lloyd MBE stepped down as the Chairman of the Development Control Committee. Councillor Bryan Davies will serve as the Committee’s Chairman, and Councillor Lynford Thomas will serve as Vice-Chairman.

Councillor Euros Davies stepped down as the Chairman of the Thriving Communities Committee. Councillor Gwyn James will serve as the Committee’s Chairman, and Councillor Marc Davies will serve as Vice-Chairman.
