Ceredigion County Council has revised its Domestic Abuse Policy to reflect Welsh Government legislation on domestic abuse. The revised policy was approved by Cabinet on 17 December and reflects the Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Act (2015).

A significant training programme is being delivered across the council to make sure that staff know how to recognise the signs of domestic abuse, know what to do and where to refer to for specialist help.

Councillor Ray Quant is the Cabinet member responsible for People and Organisation. He said, “We have a duty to protect any member of staff who suffers domestic abuse or sexual violence. It’s important that we keep policies up to date to make sure they are effective. I’m pleased that we have been able to do that.”

To promote the new policy and awareness of the ‘Stand up and Speak’ White Ribbon Campaign on 25 November, members of the council’s People and Organisation service wore white ribbons.
