On 23 March, schools, sports clubs and Ceredigion County Council will have the opportunity to turn red to show their support for the Welsh athletes who will be representing Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in April with ‘We Are Red’ day.

Activities are being organised in schools across Ceredigion in the weeks leading up to the Commonwealth games to give children the opportunity to practice some of the skills that will be carried out by the athletes at the games.

Lampeter Bowling Club’s Anwen Butten is one of the selected Ceredigion’s athletes who’ll be flying to Australia soon to compete in the games. Anwen, who has won two bronze medals in previous Commonwealth Games, will be joining a team of bowlers from across Wales to represent Team Wales.

Coral Kennerly, from Aberystwyth, is the current Welsh and British women’s champion in Shooting and will also be representing Team Wales in the games this year.

Councillor Rhodri Evans, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Lifestyle Services said, “‘We Are Red’ is an opportunity for everyone across the county to show their support of our home grown athletes who will be representing Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Australia. At Ceredigion County Council, we’re extremely proud of the achievements of these talented Ceredigion athletes and we wish Anwen, Coral and the rest of the athletes from across Wales all the very best in the forthcoming games; they’re an inspiration to everyone. So let’s all show our support for our local athletes and wear red on 23 March.”

‘We Are Red’ is a campaign run by Sports Wales, to provide the opportunity for the whole nation to unite and celebrate Welsh sport and show support Welsh sporting talent, whether at grassroots or elite levels.

Sarah Powell, Sport Wales Chief Executive added: "We know what great sport supporters we are and 'We Are Red’ day is our chance to unite and get behind the Welsh athletes who come from all corners of the country. This is an opportunity for us all to show Team Wales that we will be cheering them on as they put on their red shirts and give their all at the Games. We want to see you all join together and wear your finest red on 23 March. Let’s show what sport means to us and unite this proud sporting nation!”
