14 sports clubs from all over Ceredigion were successful in receiving over £1,300 each, to get people more active in their communities, through a Community Chest Fund.

The clubs to benefit from money for vital equipment from the Community Chest were: Aberystwyth Bowls Club, Llewod Netball Lampeter, Penparcau FC, Crannog FC, Cardigan Sub Aqua, Llandysul JFC, Hamdden Caron and Cilgwyn Junior Golf Club. The Starlings, Ystrad Fflur Sports, Tresaith Mariners, Headway Ceredigion, Ceredigion Netball League and The Mighty Ducks got funding for training new coaches and referees.

Wendy Davies, Panel Chairperson commented, “This grant really helps local clubs develop and be able to offer sporting opportunities to people in our communities. It’s a great scheme and I would encourage more to apply. Our two priorities for 2018 are to support Women and Girls activities along with inclusive sport opportunities for people with disabilities. We know that it can make a tangible difference at grassroots levels. Our local Panel supports new people becoming coaches and normally funds them 100%.”

Community Chest offers grants of up to £1,500 for activities that encourage people to become more active. The grant can also be used to pay for volunteer training and coach education, marketing, club set up costs and new equipment.

Councillor Catrin Miles, Ceredigion County Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for Learning Services, Lifelong Learning and Leisure said, “The Council seeks to promote and enhance the health and well-being of the county for the benefit of current and future generations. Our ambition is that by 2020 every child and young person will undertake a minimum of 5x60 minute sessions of activity every week and every adult will be doing a minimum of 5x30 minute sessions. The Community Chest fund is available to local sports clubs to enhance the health and well-being of residents in the county. The scheme is open to any group that wishes to organise activities aimed at getting people active so ensure you take up the opportunity.”

There is still money available to distribute to local sports clubs, with two Panel meetings to go.
