Ceredigion Youth Service has been awarded £99,000 by the National Lottery Community Fund to develop a mobile provision for children and young people.

The youth service is situated within Porth Cymorth Cynnar, which is Ceredigion County Council’s new integrated early help, support and intervention service, supporting communities, vulnerable children, young people and families.

Corporate Manager for Porth Cymorth Cynnar Support and Intervention service, Gethin Jones explained: “The aim of this project is to establish a mobile youth centre, extending our youth provision to rurally isolated areas in Ceredigion, providing bespoke programmes and flexible provision to engage with young people, particularly those who are disadvantaged, vulnerable and require support. During this challenging period, our teams have been working hard to maintain support remotely, many working from home and many being redeployed. We have since been able to develop a positive virtual presence, and this project is going to be significant in helping us re-establish our face-to-face support in the near future, and working with our close partners and stakeholders to ensure that we can reach people where it is most needed. We are very grateful to the National Lottery for giving us this opportunity to strengthen our services and enabling us to work closer with important local services to support communities right across Ceredigion.”

The project will provide a wide range of activities and opportunities for residents to access advice and support via workshops, taster sessions, information drop-ins and various clubs that will aim to promote education, health and wellbeing.

Councillor Catrin Miles, Cabinet Member for Schools, Lifelong Learning and Skills, Support and Intervention, said: “This is fantastic news for Ceredigion. I know how hard the Youth Service has worked over the past few years in demonstrating the need for this project and which has promoted a strong young person’s voice. Children and young people have taken the lead in developing this project, with over 500 young people engaging in consultation over a three year period, and I am confident that they will continue to support and lead the project in reaching as many people and communities as possible. I am truly excited to see this project developing”.
