Ceredigion will be supporting and celebrating the World Children’s Day which will be held this weekend.

World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children's Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare. (Unicef, 2021).

November 20th is an important date as it is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. (Unicef, 2021).

This year, Ceredigion Youth Service will be raising awareness of Children’s Rights in the lead up to Universal Children’s Day through sharing information and video clips on social media @GICeredigionYS. Join us to celebrate all that’s great about children and young people in Wales.

Councillor Catrin Miles, Cabinet Member for Schools, Lifelong Learning & Skills, Support and Intervention says: “Investing in our future means investing in our children — which is why the United Nations has designated every 20 November as Universal Children's Day. We are proud to embed the UNCRC in our work in Ceredigion, and Universal Children’s Day is another opportunity for us to acknowledge our children and young people and their rights.”

Poppy Evans, Ceredigion’s Member of UK Youth Parliament, says: “Children’s Universal Day is a brilliant opportunity for us as young people of Ceredigion to learn more about our rights and discover how these rights are relevant to every aspect of our lives.”
