Statutory notices will be published on the closure of Ysgol Gynradd Cilcennin, Ysgol Gynradd Beulah and Ysgol Gynradd Trewen after a Cabinet decision. The notices will be in place for 28 days to give people the opportunity to oppose the proposals to close the schools. This Cabinet decision is not a final decision to close the schools.

The Cabinet agreed to publish the statutory notices in a meeting on 18 December 2018. They considered a presentation on school finances and pupil numbers before making the decision. The Cabinet also heard input from local members before making the decision.

The Cabinet member responsible for Learning Services, Councillor Catrin Miles said, “This is not the final decision on the proposals to close the schools in Cilcennin, Beulah and Trewen. This notice gives people the chance to oppose the proposals if they choose to do so.”

“We need to make sure that our education system is sustainable and looks to the future. The proposals to close the schools are based on reducing pupil numbers and a much higher cost per pupil than the county average.”

After the notice period, the Cabinet will consider any opposition that the council receives. The Cabinet will then be able to decide to stop the proposal to close the schools, or to carry on with the process to close the schools. If the Cabinet decides to carry on with the proposals, the final decision will be made by the Full Council in June 2019.
