The site of the former Bodlondeb residential care home in Penparcau, Aberystwyth is to be put up for sale with priority given to buyers intending on using the site to provide an Elderly Mentally Infirm (EMI)/Dementia nursing home. The development follows a Cabinet decision taken on 6 March 2018.

The site will be placed on the open market with first priority to buy given to EMI / Dementia Nursing Home care providers. The second priority will be given to nursing home providers with residential care for Dementia. Third priority will be given to those intending on providing accommodation for young people in need of social housing. Other offers will be considered if providers of the prioritised uses do not purchase the site.

Councillor Catherine Hughes, Cabinet member responsible for Social Services said, “In deciding to sell the site of Bodlondeb, the Cabinet has sought to use the sale as an opportunity to find a buyer who will use the site in such a way that will benefit Ceredigion. There is real need for dementia provision in the county, and I hope a buyer will be found who can help meet some of that need.”

The Cabinet also decided that the equipment in Bodlondeb will be dispersed among the other Council residential care homes and that money from the sale of Bodlondeb will be ring-fenced to support the maintenance of Council care homes.
