Local artist Gwenllian Beynon and three of her students will give an informal talk at Theatr Felinfach about their visit to Ohio on Friday, 29 June at 7:30pm.

In September 2017, Gwenllian Beynon (Senior Lecturer at Swansea College of Art) and 3 students, Caitlin Littlejohns, Gwaredd Jones and Tomos Sparnon, went to the University of Rio Grande in Ohio. Whilst there, they responded collaboratively and creatively to the 1818 emigration to Ohio, through photographs and creative visual artwork.

Gwenllian and the students will talk about the work they produced while they were in Ohio which is now being exhibited at Theatr Felinfach. This is an opportunity to hear their story and discuss what they saw during their visit as well as a chance to consider the incredible history of the Welsh in Ohio over two centuries, 1818-2018, through their eyes.

The evening is part of the Cymru - Ohio bicentenary celebrations. To complete the evening, there will be entertainment provided by Mali and Guto Lewis from Llanon. Admission is free with no ticket needed. The theatre shop and bar will be open for business.

Continuing with the celebrations the following evening, a Grand Concert will be held in the Square Field, Aberaeron, on Saturday, 30 June. This will be an opportunity to take your deck chair, rug and picnic basket, sit back and enjoy the numerous talents that will be on stage.

The Grand Concert will include performanes from Ceredigion Schools Orchestra, pupils from both Aberaeron Primary and Secondary Schools, the Cymru Ohio Male Voice Choir created especially for this event, Lloyd Macey who was winner of the tv series ‘The X Factor’, harpist Catrin Finch and soprano Gwawr Edwards.
