Ceredigion County Council has received confirmation that Councillor Paul James was killed last night, following a road accident.

Councillor Ellen ap Gwynn, Leader of Ceredigion County Council said, “This tragic news about our close friend and colleague, Councillor Paul James, has come as a great shock to us all. Paul represented the Llanbadarn Fawr Sulien ward for many years and was a clear and firm voice on behalf of his residents. Paul was born and bred in Aberystwyth and was a well-known character with a big heart. We are all extremely saddened by this awful news.

“Paul took on a full role in the life of his local community, not only as a County Councillor, but also as a Community Councillor in Llanbadarn Fawr and as a governor in local schools. He represented the County Council on the Mid and West Wales Fire Authority.

“Paul worked at Aberystwyth University as a Security Officer and had served as a paratrooper in the British Army and in the French Foreign Legion.

“Paul is survived by his wife Jane, his four children and his mother, Vanod. We extend our sincere sympathy to them at this extremely difficult time.

The Council's flags are flying at half-mast in memory of a much respected son and loyal servant of this county.”

The Council would like to ask everyone to respect the family's privacy at this time of mourning.
