Do you have a community-led idea that could make a real difference to the lives of people living and working in Ceredigion? Cynnal y Cardi Local Action Group is asking residents, local groups and organisations to send in their ideas by Monday, 24 June.

Over recent years, Cynnal y Cardi has supported 43 rural community led ideas worth £1.2m.

Councillor Rhodri Evans is the Cabinet member responsible for Economy and Regeneration. He said, “I am delighted to learn of the progress made by the projects approved by Cynnal y Cardi over the past few years. Each project began as an idea; an individual or a group’s desire to develop the economy of their local rural community. The results prove that a lot can be achieved through a shared vision and commitment.”

Cynnal y Cardi, which is administered by Ceredigion County Council, has helped to make ideas become a reality through project development, evaluation, feasibility studies, facilitation, training, mentoring, consultation and pilot projects. Each project falls under five areas of activity within LEADER scheme. The areas include:

  • enhancing the natural and cultural resources of Ceredigion
  • trialling product/processes and creating new business partnerships and networks
  • exploring new ways of delivering services, facilities and activities
  • exploring renewable energy opportunities
  • making the most of digital technology in local communities.

LEADER, which aims to support innovative responses to opportunities or challenges faced by rural communities, is supported through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.

Councillor Evans went on to say “We hope that this call for project ideas will continue to enhance the capability of rural communities, providing opportunities to develop the rural economy of Ceredigion. Whether it is a pilot project or a feasibility study that needs supporting and developing – it’s a positive step in the right direction for a stronger Ceredigion.”
