Provide full screening for sexually transmitted infections and treatment if required.

Male patients: Do not pass urine for 1 hour before attending clinic.

Family Planning Clinics:

Provide basic and specialist contraception (including contraceptive pill, IUDs, IUS, implants) cervical smear screening, pregnancy testing and advice.

Cash Clinics:

Provide basic contraception (including contraceptive pill), sexual health advice and testing for chlamydia.

The Emergency Pill

Must be taken within 72 hours of having unprotected sex but the sooner it is taken the more effective it is.

Available from:

Any Community Contraception and Sexual Health Clinic during clinic times.

Free and Confidential Service.

No appointment needed.

Also Available free from:

  • any GP - not necessarily your own GP surgery
  • accident and Emergency Departments
  • selected Pharmacies when accredited pharmacist is on duty

Alternatively, if you are 16 or over, you can buy the emergency pill from most pharmacies or chemist for around £25.

The Emergency Coil

Can be fitted up to 5 days, or sometimes more, after unprotected sexual intercourse.
