A dedicated new service has been established to help unpaid Carers in Ceredigion. Gofalwyr Ceredigion Carers (GCC) provides many services including advice and emotional support for Carers, as well as helping them to have short breaks from their caring responsibilities.

The new service provides information, advice and emotional support on an individual basis for Carers. They organise training and social events and arrange breaks from caring, including respite care.

Councillor Catherine Hughes is Ceredigion County Council’s Carers Champion. She said: “Carers provide vital care for friends and family members. It’s really important to make sure that they get the help that they deserve; the new Gofalwyr Ceredigion Carers service does just that.”

“If you look after a member of your family or a friend, get in touch with Gofalwyr Ceredigion Carers to get the help you deserve.”

GCC have been jointly commissioned by Ceredigion County Council and Hywel Dda University Health Board. GCC is comprised of organisations experienced in delivering services to Carers in Wales. All three are members of Carers Trust Wales. They are Credu Connecting Carers, Carers Trust Crossroads Sir Gar and Carers Trust Crossroads North Wales.

Credu Connecting Carers will be listening to what is important to Carers and providing information and support. Carers Trust Crossroads Sir Gar will provide short-term respite in the south of the county. Carers Trust Crossroads North Wales will provide short-term respite in the north of the county.

Sarah Jennings is the Director of Partnerships and Corporate Services at Hywel Dda University Health Board. She said: “We are delighted to be working in close partnership with Ceredigion County Council on the launch of Gofalwyr Ceredigion Carers. Being a carer can be very rewarding but it also comes with huge responsibilities and it’s absolutely essential that we are able to provide support and help in turn for those who take on this role.”
