Climate change and sea level rises will likely bring changes to Tanybwlch beach. Ceredigion residents and visitors are invited to share their local knowledge of the area surrounding the beach with the council’s Conservation Team at a number of events around Aberystwyth this summer.
The Conservation Team is carrying out a review of the stability of the shingle ridge and sea defences of the beach. The review is funded by Natural Resources Wales. As part of the review, members of the public are invited to come along to have a look at the work done so far.
Some of Tanybwlch is part of the Pendinas and Tanybwlch Local Nature Reserve located near Penparcau. The Wales Coastal Path runs along the top of the shingle ridge bank which is part of the beach. The ridge is a site of special scientific interest.
The Conservation Team will be at the following events to listen to and talk to the public:
• Aberystwyth Show on 08 June
• Penparcau Carnival on 29 June from 1pm onwards
• Penparcau Community Hub on 06 July, from 1pm to 4pm
• Aberystwyth Fire Station, Trefechan on 09 July from 11am to 2pm
• Sea2Shore Festival on 11 August
• Various other pop-up events on Tanybwlch Beach. The dates are to be confirmed. Follow the council’s Facebook and Twitter pages for updates.
Councillor Rhodri Evans is the Cabinet member responsible for Economy and Regeneration and is also the council’s Champion for Biodiversity. He said, “Tanybwlch beach is a popular destination for many people; whether that’s visitors walking the coastal path, residents taking their dogs for a daily walk or anyone wishing to take in the natural beauty of the reserve. It is important that local residents and users of the beach are aware of this review and the potential outcomes. So come along to one of the engagement events; your say and ideas together with all the information gathered will influence any proposals that may be made for the area.”
If you’re unable to attend any of the events but would like to share your views, contact the Conservation Team on 01545 572142, email email@example.com
