On 13 February, the Wales Energy Efficiency Awards were held at the Marriott Hotel, Cardiff. Ceredigion County Council scooped two of the top prizes that give recognition of the council’s commitment to promoting energy efficiency and for delivering a successful large scale energy saving project.

The council received the top prize for the ‘Regional Council or Local Authority of the Year’, for promoting energy efficiency. The judges considered the nature, scale and scope of the work undertaken, the impact that their work has had on the local community and the priority given by the council for tackling fuel poverty.

The council was also awarded the top prize for ‘Large Scale Project’ ‘(greater than £250k), in recognition of their success in delivering energy efficiency measures in properties across Ceredigion. The council delivered the project in partnership with E-on Energy and City Energy, who have funded the works. This award recognises the efforts of all those involved locally in delivering a successful large scale energy saving project, a high standard of quality workmanship, whilst maintaining excellent customer service.

Councillor Dafydd Edwards is the Cabinet member with responsibility for Housing. He said, “This is a fantastic achievement for the Environmental Health Team in recognising the work and commitment that has gone in to making sure that there are options out there for Ceredigion residents who are in need of that extra support with heating their homes efficiently.”

The council, together with E-on Energy and City Energy have been delivering the ECO Local Authority Flexibility scheme for just over a year and the scheme have delivered over 900 measures to households within the County.

The Energy Efficiency Awards were introduced to help recognise the work being carried out by the energy efficiency sector in Wales in their delivery of the Energy Company Obligation. The measures were introduced to help homeowners reduce their energy bills, tackle fuel poverty and reduce carbon emissions.
