The enhanced High Street and Retail Rates Relief Scheme has been approved for 2019-20 in Ceredigion. The scheme was approved by Ceredigion County Council’s Cabinet on 9 April 2019.

The Welsh Government scheme provides support for eligible retail businesses by offering up to £2,500 discount on the non-domestic rates bill per property. This applies to retailers occupying premises with a rateable value of £50,000 or less in the financial year 2019-20.

The Cabinet member responsible for Finance and Procurement Services is Councillor Gareth Lloyd. He said, “This is really important for small businesses in Ceredigion. The traditional retail is competing with online sales, so any support is useful. The High Street and Retail Rates Relief Scheme is worth £850,000 to the local economy and I’m sure it will be welcomed.”

“The scheme now covers all eligible retailers, not just those on the high street. This is a positive development in Ceredigion’s economy.”

Unlike previous years, the enhanced 2019/20 scheme is not limited to high street premises but will also include all properties within Ceredigion who are eligible.

This scheme is in addition to the Small Business Rates Relief Scheme and the Transitional Rates Relief Scheme.
