Today, 30 June, the Queen’s Baton Relay visited Ceredigion as part of its journey through Wales ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games this July.

The arrival of The Queen’s Baton by Team Wales Baton at Plascrug Leisure Centre, Aberystwyth was welcomed by local school pupils and dignitaries. A debate on Climate Change took place where the children had the opportunity to raise questions with elected Council members and officers.

The Queen’s Baton Relay continued its journey, where it was passed between Baton Bearers, to Aberystwyth Bowling Club and then on to the Vale of Rheidol Railway.

A total of 18 Baton Bearers took part in Ceredigion; 16 Ceredigion athletes who have gained international honours in their chosen sports and two members of the community who have been recognised for their contribution to the community. More information can be found on the Baton Bearers in the News section on Ceredigion County Council’s website.

Leader of Ceredigion County Council, Councillor Bryan Davies said: “It has been great that we have been able to give the Queen’s Baton Relay such a warm welcome here in Ceredigion. It has been an opportunity to celebrate some of our local athletes as Baton Bearers, give recognition to volunteers who have made a positive impact in the community, and also showcased our County both nationally and internationally.”

The Queen’s Baton Relay with Team Wales carried on to Llangrannog where it will stay overnight before moving onto Pembrokeshire on Friday 01 July.
