The firebreak regulations remain in force in Wales until Monday, 09 November 2020, and over this weekend people are urged to strictly follow all rules in an attempt to regain control over the coronavirus.

The Welsh Government’s two week firebreak came into force on 23 October 2020, and it has been announced that the current restrictions will be replaced by new measures on 09 November 2020.

These measures will allow schools and non-essential businesses to reopen and the full guidance is available here. 

People must also adhere to the following rules:

  • Maintain a 2m social distance at all times, including outdoors.
  • Work from home wherever possible.
  • Meet people outdoors rather than indoors.
  • People should only meet with their ‘bubble’ in their own home, and only two households will be able to form a ‘bubble’.
  • Wear facemasks in indoor public places.
  • Avoid non-essential travel as much as possible.
  • Up to 15 people can meet indoors for organised activities and up to 30 people can meet outdoors for organised activities.

In Ceredigion, we are continuing to see the number of coronavirus cases rising, therefore it is important that our services are reopened gradually in order to control any further spread. From 09 November 2020, secondary schools will reopen to all pupils in Ceredigion, the registration service will continue by appointment only and Household Waste Sites will reopen in the county. Also, from 11 November 2020, the Library Click and Collect service will resume at Aberystwyth, Aberaeron, Lampeter and Cardigan libraries, and the mobile library service will restart delivery service to registered users. All Local Authority Leisure Centres and Swimming Pools will remain closed for the time being, with the decision reviewed in January 2021, and visits to Care Homes continue to be suspended.

By following these rules, we aim to keep the level of the coronavirus as low as possible here in Ceredigion, so that everybody can enjoy an element of normality over Christmas. This also forms part of our Winter Strategy to protect the health and wellbeing of our most vulnerable residents, including care services for the elderly and those whose medical conditions make them particularly at risk from COVID-19.
