Cambrian Mountains Pilot Project - Draft Strategy

A partnership comprising the Countryside Council for Wales, Powys, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion County Councils was set up in 2007 to look at the management of motorised recreational vehicle use in the Cambrian Mountains. The partnership subsequently appointed independent consultants - Exegesis SDM Ltd - to take forward the project.

Ponterwyd

As part of the project a small Stakeholder Working Group was established to work with the consultants and the partnership in the development of the project and to build consensus in the process.

The consultants have produced a draft management strategy and action plan in 2008 for the Cambrian Mountains. Comments were invited on these draft proposals during a six week consultation period in September and October 2008 (the consultation period has now closed). A series of 'roadshows' were also held in September at Devils Bridge, Rhayader and Llandovery, attended by over 150 people.

The draft strategy generated a great deal of interest with some 250 responses received. The Partnership will be producing a report on the consultation – the report will be made available on the web site in due course. The partnership will also be preparing a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) for the Strategy.

Because of the large number of responses received and the time required to produce the SEA, there will be a slight delay in producing the final report.

The draft strategy and accompanying plans can be downloaded from this page. An interactive mapping web site is also available at www.cambrianmountains.org This gives an opportunity to review the mapped results in more detail (individual route reference numbers can be obtained by clicking on the route on the map).
