Governor Training
With the continuing increase in the responsibilities of governors, training is considered to be an essential element in ensuring the effective governance of each school. Leadership and management are recognised to be core elements in the development and success of a school and the role of governors in those aspects are deemed to be of mounting importance.
As an Authority we recognise the importance of placing governor training among our main priorities and the LEA offers constant support through the provision of training opportunities.
Training is provided, on a termly basis, which encompasses a wide range of areas and views in response to:-
- initiatives and developments on a county and national level
- the demands and aspirations of governors
Attention is given to providing guidance on the self-evaluation process as an effective tool for developing governing bodies. It is a means of assisting governors to celebrate the good work which they achieve and to develop an action plan which focuses on priorities for future development. Estyn has stated that 'where self-review is most developed, there are clear indications that it can have a marked effect on improving governance in schools'.
