City & Guilds 9297 Adult Learner Support

This qualification is ideal for you if you intend to work (perhaps as a volunteer) with adult learners who have literacy, numeracy or English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) needs.

 What will I learn?

The course is composed of five units of which two are mandatory:

Unit 1 Working in the Sector

Unit 2 Supporting Learners

You then need to take one of the following units:

Unit 3 Literacy

Unit 4 Numeracy

Unit 5 ESOL

At the end of the course, you will be fully prepared to administer initial screening of those enrolling on basic literacy, numeracy or ESOL programmes, provide support for learning activities as directed by the tutor, support the organisation and maintenance of the learning environment and monitor learners' response to their activities.

How will I be assessed?

Each unit is assessed by an assignment. For unit 1, this is set and marked by City & Guilds. For all the other units the assignments are set and marked by us. You will also need to undertake a minimum of an 8 hour learner support practice placement.

What are the entry requirements?

You can undertake Unit 1 as a standalone qualification and you do not need any prior experience or qualifications to do this.In order to undertake the full award you will need to hold a valid literacy and numeracy qualification at level 2 or above or be able to prove that your skills are at this level.
