Interactive Mapping

Access to interactive mapping of Ceredigion using PlanAccess. The system presents a range of local authority data 'themes' e.g. recycling facilities, education, planning applications and point of interest locations.

What is the PlanAccess mapping system?

It can be regarded as the computer-based equivalent of a map but an important difference is that it's interactive allowing users to move around the maps and query certain layers of mapped information presented. Within Ceredigion County Council, maps are used in a variety of ways from locating traffic accidents to analysing school catchments areas etc. PlanAccess enables you to access Ordnance Survey (OS) and mapped data layers provided by a number of Ceredigion County Council departments. Collections of mapped data layers are known as "Themes" when viewed in PlanAccess.

Wherever possible public domain mapped data will be presented via PlanAccess in both Welsh and English.

What maps and information are available when using PlanAccess?

Various themes are currently available including the following :

• Education: primary schools, secondary schools, college and university.
• Planning Applications: planning applications submitted, from the 1970's to the present time (updated weekly) - this data is only visible when zoomed in closer than 2.5Km
• Building regulations applications - this data is only visible when zoomed in closer than 2.5Km
• Recycling and Refuse: recycling facilities including household waste sites. Refuse collection routes - this data is only visible when zoomed in closer than 2.5Km
• Ward boundaries: the geographic areas associated with and represented by Ceredigion County Council Councillors.
• GP Surgeries: the location of General Practitioners (GP) main surgeries in Ceredigion.
• OS Ceredigion Map: the default theme or base map on entry to PlanAccess.
• Council Offices: the location of council offices.
• Parking Facilities.
• Public toilets: locations throughout Ceredigion
• Points of Interest locations: choose from the list presented to jump to that location shown on a more detailed map. A variety of facilities and buildings are listed e.g. leisure centres, libraries and tourism offices.

How do I use the maps and interactive tools?

	zoom in
	zoom out
	pan

Click on the zoom in, zoom out, or pan buttons and then on the map to move around the map.

Overview map

Also the ability to select and zoom to a specific area of the map from an overview of the whole county is provided by the "Overview map"  tab

Problem Reporting

Problem Reporting - this tool allows you to report a problem. Pass the arrow cursor over the 'Problem Reporting' button, click once with the left-hand mouse button, now when the cursor is moved over the map it will be in the shape of a cross. Move the cursor over a location where you want to report a problem and click once. This will bring up a pop up box titled 'Problem Reporting'. This will have a set of boxes to fill in.

Address Search

You can use the "Address Search"  facility tab to enter an address and/or postcode to find a location on a map.

Click the information button (marked "i")  and then click on an object shown on any map theme. Any information associated with the mapped object will be displayed e.g. clicking on the triangular school object gives description/phone number/web address.

Find My Nearest

By using the "Find My Nearest"  button and then clicking on the map at any Ceredigion location you are able to search for a Ceredigion facility or council service from the list presented. For example you can then find the nearest school or recycling facility by selecting from the list and choosing a search distance. If you click on any item in the found list then the map will jump to that location. Remember the search distance you select is in Kilometres and displayed results are "as the crow flies" i.e. radial not road mileage.

Are there any technical issues?

• You need Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 or Netscape version 4.0 or above to use PlanAccess. Other Internet browsers may not be compatible with PlanAccess.
• In addition you may need to download and install the "Java Virtual Machine" - this can be downloaded from http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp
