Within Ceredigion Social Services Department, the Children & Families Service, there is a wide range of provisions and legislative requirements both to promote and safeguard the welfare of Children in Need and their families, and to protect children from harm. Local Authorities will also often have direct responsibility for the care of a child. In assessing and meeting the needs of children and families in Ceredigion the principle of the child at the centre of our service provision is paramount.

Tîm Teulu offer parenting advice and support, individual mentoring, and/or activity programmes for children, young people and their parents and carers where the child or young person is vulnerable and likely to be excluded socially or from education or the difficulties in the family are becoming overwhelming.

The Welsh Assembly Government collects information on individual children who are looked after by local authorities and will commence collection of information on individual children in need from April 2010. Local authorities are required to collect this information during the 2009-10 financial year. The intention is that local authorities will supply the information to the Welsh Assembly Government by the 30th of June 2010.
