It is your legal right to receive a Carers Needs Assessment; this gives you an opportunity to discuss with a member from the social care team your needs as a carer

There are organisations in Ceredigion that are funded by Ceredigion County Council which offer support to carers. These include support to Adult Carers, Young Adult Carers and Young Carers.

Throughout the year there are carer events organised by local carer support groups and national organisations, also there are a number of training courses for carers which are designed to make your caring role easier

There are a range of information booklets and leaflets available free of charge from the Contact Centre. These can provide a great deal of information for carers.

The Employment Act 2002 gives working parents of disabled children under 18 the right to request flexible working arrangements. Since April 2007, you also have a statutory right to ask your employer for flexible working if you are caring for an adult who is a relative or lives at the same address as you.

Caring can be rewarding but it can also be very tiring, placing demands on your physical and emotional energy. As a carer you need to be as healthy as possible to ensure you are able to continue with your caring role.

Many carers find it difficult to adjust when their caring role ends. Daily routines will have been structured around caring tasks for the person you cared for. Suddenly you will have a lot of spare time and many carers are unsure of what to do with it all.

The Joint Carers Strategy forms the basis for the development of support services to carers in Ceredigion for the years 2006 to 2011. It has been drawn up with the participation and agreement of the Local Authority, Voluntary Organisations, the Local Health Board and Health Trusts.

The Alliance membership comes from representatives of the Voluntary Sector, Ceredigion County Council Social Services Department, Ceredigion Local Health Board, Hywel Dda NHS Trust and Ceredigion Community Health Council.
