Each local planning authority participates in the preparation of "Joint Housing Land Availability Studies" which:

  • monitor the provision of market and affordable housing;
  • provide an agreed statement of residential land availability for development planning and control purposes; and
  • set out the need for action in situations where an insufficient supply is identified. Further guidance on the studies can be found in Technical Advice Note (Wales) 1: Joint Housing Land Availability Studies.

The latest completed study is the 2017 Study.

You can access the full Studies for each available year (from 2011) on the left of this page.
