What will happen when you ring us

You will be asked for information about yourself or the person you are calling about. The Single Point of Access will answer your query and/or where necessary will complete a Contact enquiry, which will be sent to a Social Work Team. If the service you require is not provided through Social Services, the Single Point of Access may provide you with information on other organisations that may be able to help you.

The information that you will need to provide when ringing will be personal information about yourself or the person you are calling about. For example name, address and date of birth. If you need a contact enquiry we will need details of the difficulties you or the person you are calling about are experiencing, and how you/they would like help with these.

However if you do not have all the information we need, you can still ring us. We may arrange to gather this information at a later date.

Out of Hours

Emergency Duty Team

We know that not all unexpected major problems happen during normal office hours or can wait until the next day. Ceredigion Social Services provides an Out of Hours Emergency Team that is there to help with these emergencies.

To contact the Emergency Duty Team telephone:

0845 6015392

Weekdays - 17.00 to 08.45
Weekends - Friday 16.30 to Monday 08.45
Bank Holidays - 24 Hours

Calls are answered by an operator from Careline in Carmarthenshire who will take details of the problem and your contact details. They will then pass this information over to the duty Social Worker.

When you call us it is important that you give us as much information as you can about the person needing help.

The duty Social Worker will contact you and give you advice and guidance over the phone on how to deal with the problem, or they will either:

  • Recommend that you contact another more appropriate agency. They will give you the contact details
  • Refer the matter on to another Social Services team the next working day
  • In some circumstances they may visit you or the person with the problem

You have a choice

Mae Gen Ti Ddewis (You have a choice)

"I feel much more comfortable discussing my problems in Welsh", is a sentiment that's been echoed by numerous research projects over the years. When in need of help or advice being able to discuss issues and problems in one's own language, the language of hearth and heart, is so much easier and stress-free.

Research has also showed that many Welsh speakers still believe that officialdom speaks English and put themselves at a disadvantage in not speaking Welsh when in contact with official bodies.

Over the summer Ceredigion's Social Services are trying to bust that myth. Their Call Centre at Aberaeron is staffed by a dedicated team of bilingual local ladies who are there on call to provide help and assistance in either Welsh or English.

Over the summer months Ceredigion Social Services will be raising awareness of this wonderful asset. The 'Mae Gen Ti Ddewis' (It's your choice) project, sponsored by the Welsh Language Board, will highlight the fact that all calls to the Minaeron centre can be made in Welsh. Leaflets will be distributed at cultural events and the message shared through the county's Welsh-medium papurau bro.

So, don't delay - phone today on 01545 574000 in Welsh or English as you prefer. Mae gen ti ddewis. It's your choice.
